About Us |
The first Daisy Bag was a chocolate brown faux suede messenger bag. It took two hours to cut out and two weeks to complete. Not to mention, countless lost pins (only to be found with bare feet later), a broken machine needle and much late night crying and hand wringing. At the end of the two weeks, I had an obscenely nice bag considering how many mistakes I had made along the way.
The second messenger bag was easier – a red and orange cotton blend that was made to look like patchwork on the outside and a midnight blue with silver sparkles on the inside. It took a fraction of the time and turned out even better. I made it as a gift for a close friend and she loved it. And with that, I had an idea.
I set out that year to change the face of my campus. I spent weekends cutting fabric, ironing on interfacing, pinning, stitching, and dreaming up new bags. I made one with palm trees, another with robots on the inside. There were bags out of towels with clear pockets and tote bags out of tweed. I gave the bags to my closest friends and professors, until my campus was filled with people carrying their books in fabric I had sculpted.
And there Daisy Sewing was born. In that year I learned how to use unforgiving fabrics and draw out my own patterns. And I began to dream up the perfect business: one that would combine my love of sewing with my love making things for people.
But it's not easy to start something big on your own. I have been fortunate to be blessed with good friends. All of the web design is complements of David Thompson, who has slaved for hours in an attempt to make daisysewing.com not only a gorgeous website, but also one that is easy to navigate and use. Jedire Doresi has also joined Daisy Sewing. She has many dreams and visions of creating beautiful scarves and bags. Many other friends have encouraged all of us at Daisy Sewing and given their unfailing support. And we are forever in their debt.
So now you know, it all started with a woman, a sewing machine, and the desire to create something beautiful and useful.
Julie,
Daisy Sewing
